On the path

This was not a Swiss-made bridge. It was missing some planks and was also quite high above the river. Not a pleasant experience.

Our camp by the river at Yamphudin. This is the last village in the way to the South base camp. Next morning we will have to ascend the hill behind the tents and pass through the visible landslide.

In the evening I have a long chat (about world politics!) with a local Maoist commander.

Day 5 - Yamphudin to Omje Khola (2400m)

After crossing another dodgy bridge (but this was OK because it was so low above the river) we start the long steep climb to a small saddle.

Crossing the landslide was far easier than it looked from the valley floor.

From the saddle we then descend into the forest

The river at our camp in Omje Khola. It was much colder than the river in Yamphudin as it was coming straight down from the glacier.
